Excellent. Thank you for articulating this so beautifully. It is too easy for contemplatives to think that mere contemplation is sufficient, that prayer and meditation and a commitment to high ideals are enough to transform our societies and the world. But those steps are only a preparation, a means of connecting us to a higher source of spiritual power and insight that will equip us for the task ahead. To bring about the transformations we aspire for, we must take action--not in isolation but in organized movements. Of course, those who aspire to a purely contemplative life should be respected for their choice. But too many people who turn toward meditation and other spiritual exercises adopt these practices as a means for avoiding the call to action.

Thank you Adam for this thought provoking article! Paired with your personal experiences, witnessing what’s happening now in the U.S. is really scary.
